I haven’t been sleeping very well lately, and I’ve been under a great deal of stress (both work stress and just stressing about finances, the usual every day life kind of stuff). And in the past week, I’ve experienced something I’ve never experienced before — migraines.

I didn’t quite know what it was at first, just that my head hurt to the point where it felt like it was going to explode (it didn’t, in case you’re wondering). The onset of these headaches is quite sudden, and they tend to last for anywhere from an hour to a few hours.

I also often feel nauseous and off-balance (which makes me wonder if this has something to do with my busted vestibular system). I don’t know anything at all about migraines (since I never experienced them before), so I think I’ll have to read up on the potential causes.

I also wonder if it has to do with VRT — could the VRT exercises cause my brain to start compensating more and thus lead to headaches as my brain gets overloaded with too much to do?

I mentioned before that the meclizine was really helping things. It would seem however, that for some reason, it’s no longer really helping very much at all.

I’ve frequently been waking up with very dizzy, falling sensations. It’s especially bad in the morning when I wake up — and it’s starting to drive me a little nuts.

It’s tough to deal with, especially when I thought I had somewhat of a solution with the meclizine. I’m still taking it, and it seems to keep things from getting overwhelmingly dizzy, but it’s not doing nearly what it was before.

The comment about these being referred to as “drop attacks” is right on the money. That’s exactly like what they feel like — one minute I’m sitting or standing comfortably doing something, the next I feel like I’m tumbling through space.

I still haven’t heard back from the VRT folks, so I guess I still have some hope there. It really starts to get me down when I feel like the dizziness is winning though — it’s exhausting to fight a constant battle against some unseen enemy, especially if when half the time you wonder if what you’re battling against is just in your head.

It often crosses my mind that there must be some way to cope better with this. I mean I think I’ve learned to cope in a certain sense (it doesn’t drive me as crazy as it used to), but the goal I suppose is always to get back to 100% — which sometimes seems like a distant memory.

I think I’ve also been under more stress than usual lately. There’s been some added (and unexpected) stresses at work, which always seem to make the dizziness worse.

I seem to be able to find an unlimited amount triggers for making the dizziness worse — I’d be very happy if I could find even one that makes it better.

I mentioned last time that I’ve had an unusually hard time falling asleep — but I was still always managing to get to sleep by around 1:00 or 1:30. Things seem to have gotten worse for me as far as falling asleep goes, with the past two nights being around 4:00 a.m. before I’m able to get to sleep.

I’m not sure what the change is, except for the fact that I’m now at home and back from vacation. You would think that being at home would allow me to sleep better — but it seems it’s the opposite.

The problem is also that I wake up extra early, and then can’t fall back to sleep. This morning I was awake at around 7:00 a.m. (yes, after falling asleep at 4, it wasn’t very pleasant).

When I wake up so early, I horrible disequilibrium, and then I can’t fall back to sleep because of it. This then leads me to being awake for a few hours, and then wanting to sleep until the afternoon (which I unfortunately can’t do because I have to go to work).

I’ve tried just getting up so that I can try to tire myself out — but no matter how tired I am during the day, I never seem to be tired in the evening. My balance is usually better in the evening, and I wonder if my brain is just trying to prolong the times where I feel better.

Anyway, I’m hoping that I get a decent amount of sleep tonight, because being tired all the time is no fun, and makes my balance much worse.

I don’t ever remember being able to sleep well. Even when I was a little kid, I had trouble sleeping, and would often wake up in the night, unable to fall back to sleep. But lately, my sleeplessness has reached a whole new level.

I’m not sure what’s causing the sleeplessness, but it usually goes something like this. I lie in bed, almost asleep — until I get a strong sensation of movement that startles me completely out of my state of almost-sleep.

It’s strong enough that I actually lie in bed, muscles tensed, wondering if I did actually move — even though I know that I really didn’t. This is coupled with a second feeling, where I am actually sleeping, and then wake up because I’ve rolled over — and then get the sensation that I just keep going.

The really, really annoying part of this is that it seems to be cyclical. That is, because of all these weird things that happen to me at night, I’m not able to sleep, which then makes the symptoms worse the next night.

The starting feeling is probably the worst though, and I don’t just get it at night. I often get this feeling during the day when I’m concentrating on something, and then suddenly feel like my brain is alerting me to the fact that I’m moving, even though I’m not.

I think I’ve actually started to dread going to sleep a bit, and that’s part of the reason that I can’t get to sleep. I always know that I’ll get this falling or starting feeling many times during the night, and it makes me hesitant to go to bed, which of course is not good.

I used to really enjoy sleeping, but I don’t feel the same way about it any more. Although I feel tired all the time and like I can never get enough sleep, I don’t ever feel like going to bed because of the annoyance of it all.
