It’s been a while since I’ve written here, and I hope no one thought I was gone forever! Things have been very busy at work, and of course quite stressful as well. This hasn’t really helped the dizziness in the past little while, and it’s been a bit tough to deal with. Even walking to and from work can be a chore some days.
So I’ve decided to extend this weekend, and take Monday and Tuesday off as well. I’m planning on traveling somewhere (it’s noon on Saturday, and I still haven’t decided where yet, I think it’ll be fun to just get in the car and go somewhere).
I’m looking forward to this much-needed break, and I’m hoping that I’ll come back rested (and less dizzy!). As I said in my last post, I’ve got my appointment with the new neurotologist at the end of the month (which I’m feeling hopeful about), so I’m hoping I can allow myself to feel a bit better before then!
On a side note, I did only 20 minutes of biking yesterday, and felt absolutely terrific after. I didn’t feel great while doing it, but for several hours afterwards, I thought: why don’t I do this all the time? I guess you can never really go wrong with getting more exercise.
I just got back from the gym, where I did some running on the treadmill and about another 15 minutes on the elliptical machine. I followed that with a bit of light weights, and a some stretching.
I’ve noticed that while I’m on the elliptical, or especially while I’m running, my balance seems to be horrible. Well, it’s not my balance itself exactly, it’s that I feel completely off balance.
And when I get off the treadmill, I actually feel like the room is spinning around — it takes about 5 minutes of walking around the room for the feeling to go away. But several hours later, I actually feel better than I did before I went to exercise. Then again, maybe I’m just pleased with myself that I went and got some exercise.
I mentioned before that I wanted to get the Wii Fit in order to try it out for balance exercises. Well, lo and behold, the Wii Fit seems to be sold out everywhere in North America!
While I’m also looking to buy a bicycle this summer (which will hopefully allow me to get some much-needed exercise as well), I was really looking forward to exercise with the Wii Fit. I’m going to keep trying to track one down, but it’s been several fruitless weeks.
Hopefully I’ll be able to locate a Wii Fit so that I can start my balance-improvement experiment with it. I’ve also heard that yoga is good for retraining balance, so the Wii Fit yoga would be a great thing to check out. Wish me luck finding one!
I felt pretty good yesterday — barely any imbalance, and I went out and got lots of stuff done (including some shopping that I had been putting off for a really long time). I came home, put a bookshelf together, reorganized things at home, and generally felt pretty good.
Then I woke up this morning and felt like I was right back to where I was before when I had caught the cold I haven’t been able to get over. I felt stuffed up and had a headache, and felt extremely off balance.
However, the circus festival was here today, and I forced myself to go out and check out the festival. I went and took some really good pictures, and generally felt much better that I hadn’t decided to retreat back home where I could feel sick.
I’m due to start vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) very soon, and I’m very hopeful that it’s going to allow me to feel better. I know I probably should have started it after my initial episode of severe vertigo three years ago, but I didn’t really know about it then. I just hope it’s not too late to start it now.
I’m also a big fan of gaming on the Nintendo Wii, and I’m excited for the Wii Fit to come out in North America on May 21st — in case you haven’t seen or heard of the Wii Fit, here’s a short video explaining what it is and what it can do:
